  1. Hey Martin :).

Will we ever see Hybris and Battle Squadron as a download on Xbox Live or something ?

Hybris should be remember for years to come, we must have new comers see this awesome game and music. People will play Hyrbis long after we are all gone.

Back when they were on the Amiga it was the best time of my life and as I mentioned once before it is sad that we had to move on. I have even seen a vide on Youtube showing the Amiga Factory closed and someone took a walk through which was kinda sad… I collected everything to do with Amiga such as posters and every single magazine that came out, I think I would have had close to 300 demo disks…..

Everyone that had an Amiga knew all the programmers and music composer names. We all waited for the next project to come out where we could hear the music from legends such as Paul Van Der Valk, David Whittaker and Chris Huelsbeck etc.

    Hyrbis will live on 🙂

    Your number 1 fan.

    1. Hi again Zro Dfects, Great to hear from you again 🙂 Yes, the Amiga era was a great part of our lives as well. We will definitely convert Hybris to new devices to it can live on further, but which ones exactly we are still considering. Martin

  2. Just listening to Hybris music right now… HYBRIS is one of those games that made it impossible for me to sell my original Amiga 500… Still today, I connect it to my big-screen TV from time to time and load HYBRIS. Then I look at the screen for hours (or let it run in the background), playing this great music and showing off it’s capabilities, coding- and graphicwise. The perfect animations, the smooth movement of the enemies, everything. And: HYBRIS let the dreams of all shoot’em players come true, with weapon systems that not only enhance your shooting power, but also visibly powered up your ship!

I still remember, when I was 14 and my little brother asked me: “Hey, I just saw this BIG mothership dropping you off. Why don’t you play this BIG mothership, it easily could destroy everything?!”… and I reaponded: “The mothership isn’t equipped with such powerful weapons. But wait, I can become almost as BIG!”. As soon as I collected “3”, my brother started believing what I was talking about, and he had not seen “4” or “5” yet!

And while HYBRIS just scrolls, it shows the highscores flashing in the classical Amiga color-copperbars, and then, the credits come up! Like in the end of a theatrical movie… and even though not crucial to the game, even the font used there was carefully crafted to look just great!

    Well done, Commander!

P.S.: Nowadays I work at QNX, and our parent company just launched the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. I keep my fingers crossed to see HYBRIS on it, too!

    1. Hi ThunderBlade, Thanks for letting us hear this great story 🙂 It is truly fantastic for us hear these kinds of things… especially so many years later! Hybris will surely come to mobile devices. When we have wrapped up BS ONE we will decide which steps are next, though of course we do have some plans already. Your story definitely counts in favor of Hybris… excellent explanation of the whole weapons stuff 🙂

      1. Holy Moly!

I would love to see Hybris released on the PC.

I have one of these Tanksticks (arcade controllers for the PC) and Hybris would be amazing on it. Sure we can always play the old Amiga version through an emulator, but if that game were redone somehow, it would be amazing. The limitation with Hybris was always due to the low number of simutaneous instruments. I’m fairly certain that’s why the explosions in the game cut out the music all the time. With today’s hardware we could have the great music with no cutting out, and, well, there are just too many options for a re-make of Hybris. I hope it gets something more grand than just mobile apps. Hybris was meant to be played on the big screen. Would love to see it in 1080p high def with enhanced high-def sound. That would be something. For instance, you could do what they did with Storm Angel a while back, only with Hybris. Throw in some OpenGL 3d items, revamp the whole game in 1080p. That would be amazing.

Link to the tankstick that works great on a PC using an Amiga emulator:

BTW, did the sheet music for Hybris ever get released? I’d really enjoy entering it into some sound software to be able to hear that screaming electric guitar part played back as many different instruments. Hybris was by far the best Amiga game ever created.

        -Little Lost Linden

        1. Hi Linden, Thanks for your input and praise of Hybris… very nice to hear 🙂 Yes, it would indeed be nice with Hybris on Pc and on shown on an HD screen 🙂 We do have plans in that direction, but initially we are focussing on mobile devices. As you may know we have already converted Battle Squadron to iOS… and of course without the cutting of the sound as you propose it should be like 😉 So they tuned for more products… including Hybris 🙂

P.S. The sheet music did not get released for either game.

  3. Hey guys…

First I just want to say that you are all legends. I loved both Battle Squadron and Hyrbis.. I especially loved the music in Hyrbis from the music god Paul Van Der Valk, I could listen to it none stop.

I also wanted to say thank you for creating such masterpeices. I played these games day and night with hardly any sleep and I even skipped days from school to play them and listen to the music. I would have to be your largest fan in the world period. And If I could get hold of a poster or photo of the Hyrbis title screen signed by all the people behind the game that would be just awesome.

It brings tears to my eyes that the Amiga is no longer, as it was a true awesome arcade machine, it was like a death in the family and it was hard to move on which even to this day I haven’t moved on, Amiga will be in my heart forever. There was none of this PS3, 360 is better rubbish everyone loved the Amiga and we were all like one big family. Graphic artists and musicians like yourselves helped with other developers with projects not like today as much. There seem to be more love, feel and care when it comes to created their games than what you see today even with such limited processing power.

Amiga would be the only time that I would love to go back in time to experience it all over again. I own an Xbox360, PS3, Wii, 3DS and a PSP and I used to play the Amiga even more than all my current consoles combined.

I prefer the 16-bit pixel art because everything was created by hand/mouse and not use some program to create polygons and then wrap some textures around it. I have full respect to those who create art pixel by pixel, just like a cartoonist and not 3D etc. Long live Deluxe Paint :P….

I wanted so so much to get into game making ever since I played the Amiga. The Amiga was perfect due to the thousands of awesome games and music that was way before it’s time and since I had too much fun playing and listening I never got to the game making side which I am really annoyed about but I had too much fun to even care haha, and now I got older and with a family it slowed me down more and I am kicking myself that I didn’t go to night school etc to study art.

I have started some pixel art that I would like to create games with but not being a professional artist I get stuck alot as I haven’t done any studying in this area before. Animation would be my biggest flaw.

I would love for you guys to check out some art I have done for a game that most likely will never see light of day but we will see, I started the pixel art along time ago and as I said due to my skills it is hard to just whip up some pixel art just like a pro and create none stop. What you see is my own designs all created over a long period of time and as such have turned out better than I thought even to go as far as looking almost pro but I am far from it I can assure you.

I would really appreciate it if you guys have some sketches that you used for your Hyrbis game etc back in the Amiga days and any other designs you could show me and maybe help me with some light on what you guys started with to your final product etc. What I would love to see a video of you guys in action from sketch ideas to painting your pixel space ships etc that would be awesome.

I could write all day to tell you how much I would love to be a part of your team but due to my artistic and animation level I know that would be a long stretch but I would appreciate any type of help and tips and any ideas that you could send my way I would love you guys…

Again thanks for the good old days, you are the guys I look up to as far as video games, pixel art and music goes. And to be a fly on the wall watching you all in action creating Hyrbis etc I would probably fall off the wall with excitement….

Anyway must go or I will type all day lol…

    Have yourselves an awesome day…

    Yours Truly
Worlds biggest fan and largest Amiga lover.

    Zro Dfects (Jayson)

    1. Hi Zro Dfects, That has to be the most positive, mind-blowing post I have ever seen regarding Hybris and Battle Squadron 🙂 It really is truly amazing to read these kinds of things now more than 20 years later 🙂 Yes, we also did love the Amiga and the whole era…

We will see what we can do, but please note that we are in the middle of finalizing BS on iPhone, so please bear with us if we cannot return with more details right now…

A thousand thanks for sending us this mail.

      Martin

      1. Thanks a million Martin for the quick response and you are totally welcome.

Do what ever you guys need to do for the preperation for your game updates etc. I am in no hurry, I understand how much time and effect will be involved in your games and how important it is for you guys to get it out for people to bring back their great memories again…..

Keep up the good work, say hi to all the guys for me. It is awesome to see that you are all still involved with Hybris and Battle Squadron after all these years. Nothing can compare to your work….

        Zro Dfects

  4. Hi,
I hope that when Hybris will be available for Iphone…that the muzak will not be cut by sounds effects like on the Amiga 🙂
    Paul Van Der Valk rules.

    1. Hi,
Yes it is great music Paul Van Der Valk did on Hybris 🙂
Using 16 sound channels on iOS will make Hybris and our soon to be released Battle Squadron ONE a mega feast of sound for your ears 🙂

  5. Hi “Enemy”,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, Hybris did indeed run 50/60 fps on the Amiga and it was hard work, but we love that frame rate for action games. For BS on the Amiga fast moving objects move at 50/60 fps, and slower moving ones at half. For BS ONE on the the iPhone we have stuck with this to keep the game play 100% like the original. This fast paced action should be an excellent gaming experience for any gamer 😉

Look out for Hybris soon on the iPhone 🙂
